Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, there are three divisions to choose from when action gets under way from January 9 at Barasti Beach in Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Resort.

Although team slots have been filled, you can still be involved in the new season by signing up as an individual player.

Their Social leagues run on Monday and Wednesdays, ideal for those who are new to the game and just want to play for fun, while those who want to test themselves can join the Competitive division beginning on Wednesday (January 11).

While those run for eight weeks, there are also places available for the Recreational league on Tuesdays.

As the UAE’s biggest sport and social club with over 5,000 members, Duplays knows a thing or two about organising leagues and tournaments.

Their portfolio includes basketball, football and badminton and it’s no surprise that volleyball has been a huge success.

“We’ve been hosting beach volleyball leagues for a long time now and it’s been very popular,” said Joanna Roaring Roquid-Butschi, sports and leagues manager at Duplays.

“A lot of people really enjoy themselves playing because it’s really fun and played in a fantastic venue at Barasti Beach. Even for those who have never played the game before, have really enjoyed themselves and keep returning.”

There is a competitive, social and recreational league running.

Individuals will be placed into a team with matches played between 19:00 and 23:00. Each side will play three short matches per week.

Besides the winning trophy, there are attractive prizes to be won and Roquid-Butschi, insists there’s plenty of positives by signing up.

“With the new year just a day away, it’s a great way to try a new sport and keep fit,” she said. “Your experience doesn’t matter. There are different levels to choose from.

“I’ve been here for eight months now and the feedback from players has been remarkable. By playing together, you get to meet new people from different walks of live.”

She added: “We also have our other sports leagues beginning in January so there’s a wide variety of choices in our programme for 2017.”
