Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann thinks RB Leipzig’s midfielder and the club’s transfer target Naby Keita would suit their style of play although wishing they would strengthen their defence first.

Keita has been on Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s radar this transfer window and there have been many rumours surrounding his move to Anfield this summer.

When asked about Keita, Hamann said, he is a very capable player and brings a lot to the team, but stressed on the fact that defensively Liverpool haven’t been that sound over the past three years.

According to Hamann, signing a right-back or left-back or a defensive midfielder would be a better move.

When questioned if Virgil van Dijk would fit Liverpool’s system, he said, “That would be great. He’s probably one of the best centre-backs in the league.”

He also added that he’d love to see him (van Dijk) at the club as his inclusion would improve the team.
