WATCH highlights as 19-year-old Fan Zhendong shocks Olympic champion Ma Long to win China Open

The 2014 Youth Olympics champion Fan Zhendong sensationally defeated world number one MA Long 11-9, 13-11, 11-8, 11-5 to clinch the China Open title.

In what proved to be a one-sided encounter, Fan’s combination of consistent attacking shots and solid defence saw him beat his compatriot in straight sets.

Fan said: “Ma Long is a very strong opponent, I learned a lot from him in training and in competitions. I am really happy to win such a big title against MA who is the best player in the world.”

In the women’s singles final, Ding Ning beat Liu Shiwen to add to her Rio 2016 gold from last month.

The world number two controlled the game and won 11-6, 8-11, 11-4, 10-12, 12-10, 11-8.

The next stop on the ITTF World Tour is the Belgium Open in De Haan which begins on Tuesday.
