Matt Hall delivered when it really mattered to deny home favourite Matthias Dolderer yet again and reign supreme in the Red Bull Air Race in Lausitz, Germany, yesterday.

It was packed house at the EuroSpeedway with hundreds hoping to see championship leader Dolderer win in front of his home crowd.

But Hall, 44, who had earlier overcome the Last-14 and Round-of-Eight, laid down the marker with a time of 53.642s in the Final Four stage.

Dolderer, 45, knew what was required to top the podium but but had to settle for second place, finishing in 54.417s.

There was something to cheer for Canada’s Pete McLeod (54.916s), who achieved third place for his first podium in Germany, while Czech Republic’s Martin Sonka took fourth spot in 56.126s.

It was Hall’s second consecutive triumph, who denied Dolderer three weeks ago in Ascot. With two races to go, Hall has put himself in a strong position for his maiden title and now trails the German by 16.5 points with two races to go.

“This track did suit our style, but the happiest thing is that we’re in a groove again. So the plan is ‘no mistakes and always fast,” said Hall.

“I’ve got nothing to lose: I’ve been second in the World Championship before and I’ve raced right to the wire in Las Vegas before – Matthias hasn’t. We’ll just take it one race at a time and see what happens.”
