WATCH: Diego Simeone admits he would’ve committed the same foul as Real Madrid’s Fede Valverde

Federico Valverde has apologised to Alvaro Morata for a foul that saw him sent off in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday but Diego Simeone does not blame the Real Madrid midfielder.

Despite his dismissal, Valverde was still named man of the match for the final, a game Real won 4-1 on penalties, with Thibaut Courtois saving Thomas Partey’s spot-kick.

Valverde’s cynical foul on Morata as the last man denied the Spaniard a one-on-one with the keeper and a chance to win the tie.

However, Simeone admits that he would’ve done the same.

“It was the most important play of the match, it could have been a goal for us. I told him ‘Don’t worry, I would have done the same in your place’,” the Atleti boss said after the game.
