For a centre-back, Sergio Ramos is enjoying a phenomenal season in front of goal. His late winner against Real Betis brought up his seventh goal in 18 La Liga appearances and his 10th overall this season.

The Real Madrid defender has been so prolific that he’s even outshone some of the best strikers in Europe’s top leagues, who admittedly, haven’t been at their best.

Nevertheless, achieving a better goal-scoring record than these stellar names takes some doing as a defender and the Spaniard can be proud of his tally.

WAYNE ROONEY – MANCHESTER UNITED

Jose Mourinho has always been a big admirer of Wayne Rooney and he was finally at his disposal at the start of this season. However, the Englishman has proved to be only a shadow of the player who drew high praise from the Portuguese.

League Appearances – 18

Goals – 2

JAMIE VARDY – LEICESTER CITY

After an incredible title-winning season in the previous campaign, Jamie Vardy never quite recovered from his party and now fights to survive the drop to the Championship.

League Appearances – 24

Goals – 7

MARIO MANDZUKIC – JUVENTUS

The Croatia international has never quite settled at Juventus since his move from Atletico Madrid two summers ago and this season could end up being his worst in front of goal for a long time.

League Appearances – 25

Goals – 5

THOMAS MULLER – BAYERN MUNICH

Thomas Muller had made a name for himself for popping up at the right places at the right times and finishing chances with unerring efficiency. He couldn’t be further from that kind of form this season though with just one strike in the Bundesliga so far.

League Appearances – 21

Goals – 1

DANIEL STURRIDGE – LIVERPOOL

Persistent injury concerns and a lack of fitness has kept Daniel Sturridge on the sidelines more often than not this season.

League Appearances – 14

Goals – 2
