The Dakar Rally is an annual rally raid that’s been around since 1978.

Open to professionals as well as amateurs, the race is an off-road endurance event that sees participants brave some of the harshest terrain on the planet.

The 2017 race will be the 38th edition and begins in Paraguay on January 2.

In the above video, some of the more experienced racers do their best to sum up the rally in five words, giving us an idea of the essence of the race.
