Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not surprised that seven of his players have been nominated for the Ballon’ d’Or after they won the Champions League last season.

The German prepares his side to take on Genk on Wednesday and thinks it’s only normal that Virgil van Dijk, Roberto Firmino, Alisson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have all been nominated for the highest individual honour in football.

“I think when you win it it’s big, when you don’t win hopefully it doesn’t hurt too much, it’s a very good sign,” Klopp said.

“But after last season, what we played, it’s normal that a lot of players have to be nominated if there are any football experts.”
