Fernando Torres was named the honorary president of his final club, Japan’s Sagan Tosu, on Saturday.

The Spain forward’s distinguished football career officially came to an end on Friday as the team lost 6-1 to Vissel Kobe at home in the J1 League.

Around 3,000 Tosu fans came to see off Torres on Saturday morning at Ekimae Real Estate Stadium, with the 35-year-old promising he will “visit Japan from time to time to experience more, and spend some good time here in the future.”

The former Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool player won the World Cup once, in 2010, and the European Championship twice, in 2008 and 2012, with Spain.

He scored five times in his season-long spell in Japan.
