Lionel Messi said Barcelona need to avoid “childish” mistakes after Atletico Madrid came from behind to beat the Catalans 3-2 in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

“We need to improve and we are aware of it, I think today was a step forward, aside from the defeat,” the Argentine said.

“But I know we are not doing things like we would like to do, or like we could do. This year we will continue on this way, avoiding childish mistakes like we did.”

The result sets up a final meeting with local rivals Real Madrid for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
