The 32-year-old American hit five birdies and an eagle to move into contention ahead of the final day on Sunday.

He said: “I played really solid. I hit a lot more solid golf shots. I hit it closer to the hole and rolled in some putts. I need to go out and do the same thing tomorrow. I’m going to have to shoot another -8 if I want any chance.

“The golf game is in pretty good change. I’d like to go out on Sunday and post another really good round and see what happens.”
