If you look at La Liga’s list of this season’s leading scorers and assisters per 90 minutes, you won’t be surprised to see the two names at the top: Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Behind them, though, there’s a surprise. In third place we travel north to San Sebastian, where we find Real Sociedad.

Now, you might think it’s Martin Odegaard, whose classy performances have attracted so much attention this season. But it’s not him. And neither is it the elegant Spanish international Mikel Oyarzabal, nor the hot young Swedish striker Alexander Isak. It is, in fact, Portu.

Yes, that’s right: the La Liga player with the most goals and assists per 90 minutes – excluding penalties – is the distinctly unflashy figure of Portu, who has seven goals and seven assists so far this season.

So let’s take a look at him.
