For some goalscorers, the one way to top the feeling of putting the ball in the back of the net is to celebrate in the craziest way possible. Think the Brazilian team’s Samba dances, or Roger Milla’s famous dance for Cameroon during the 1990 World Cup.

But sometimes, celebrations become iconic for how outlandish they are. Who can forget Mario Balotelli raising his shirt at Old Trafford to reveal the message underneath: Why always me? It is an image that will delight Manchester City fans forever – and always cause nightmares for Manchester United fans.

There are many more such celebrations, from Eric Cantona’s odd but imperial celebration after scoring an impudent chip against Sunderland, when he decided to just stay still, to Diego Maradona’s wild celebration at the 1994 World Cup, when he ran to the cameras and threw shadow punches before staring directly into the camera, looking crazed and possessed.

Our friends at Copa90 have compiled the ten most bizarre celebrations from footballing history. Do you think there’s any they’ve forgotten?
