Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann believes Jurgen Klopp must work with the current squad instead of buying in the transfer window as the Reds plan to bring back future glory to Anfield.

The 42-year-old German, who made 191 appearances in the Liverpool jersey over a seven year spell, is one of the most decorated players of that era of Kop players.

A World Cup runner-up in 2002 and Champions League winner in 2006, Hamann insists the players and management must prove they are worthy of their place if they are to be a successful club.

“They need to prove they can perform and do the job when the chips are down,” said Hamann.

“Too often in recent years whenever the going got tough, players went missing. It’s the manager’s job to get the best out of these players.”

“We hear the club needs new players, but at least try and get the best out of the current players and hopefully we can have a successful future.”
