VIDEO: Claudio Ranieri thanks star striker Jamie Vardy as Leicester go top

13:35 22/11/2015

Reaction from Claudio Ranieri and Steve McClaren after Leicester City beat Newcastle United 3-0 on Saturday to move top of the English Premier League standings.

Ranieri’s Leicester City have been high-flying this year and with yet another victory to add to their ever-growing list, their run looks set continue – well, as long as goal-machine’ Jamie Vardy is playing, that’s for sure.

The forward has been in exceptional form this season, scoring an unimaginable 13 goals in as many appearances – a feat that has only ever been achieved once in Premier League history, by former Manchester United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

He also became the first player to score in nine consecutive games in the same season, while the Van Niselrooy once again managed the same feat, but across two seasons.

His sublime finishing, saw him claim ‘Player of the Month’ in Ocotober and with his finish against newcastle, ensuring the win, his manager was quick to praise him.

Although it was all singing and dancing for Ranieri and co, his oppenent wasn’t best pleased with how things turned out, as Steve McClaren claimed, “I think it was our worst performance:” It wasn’t a pretty site for Newcastle fans, as goals from Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki secured contributed to a dominating win on Tyneside.

It’s possible not even the wolly’s brolly could could help Newcastle and the slippery path they’re on right now, as they sit one place above the drop zone. When an MP has something to cheer about and Newcastle United don’t, there’s cause to worry, right?
