Following a 3-0 win at home to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola considered facing Southampton in the club’s next two matches.

City will host Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, before a league meeting – also at Etihad Stadium – on Saturday.

The Spaniard said “I am not going to judge Southampton” – despite the Saints’ staggering 9-0 loss to visiting Leicester City last Friday.

“It’s not easy of course but at the same time I think they are incredible professionals,” said Guardiola of Hasenhuttl’s men.

“The manager will be sad for a moment, one night, of course, but after that they have to move forward.

“I think the players are professionals, they are going to try to do their best… so I am not going to judge Southampton or prepare for the Southampton games about that result against Leicester.”
