English Premier League champions Manchester City held their first open training session on Tuesday in Hong Kong following criticism from the Chinese press of their Asia Tour.

Pep Guardiola refuted claims of City’s supposed arrogance in Asia – centred on the club reportedly ignoring fans during their pre-season tour – and showed a number of tactical moves in front of the Hong Kong public.

City played in the Asia Trophy in China, and defeated West Ham in Nanjing before they lost on penalties to Wolves in Shanghai.

Guardiola’s side will take on local side Kitchee SC on Wednesday before they travel to Japan to face Yokohama F-Marinos.

Government protests have taken place in Hong Kong for several weeks and pro-democracy protesters were attacked on Sunday, but Guardiola had said his side felt “safe” in the region.
