Chelsea were reportedly interested in Celtic striker Moussa Dembele during the January transfer window, but they might have an alternative to the former Fulham player already on their books.

Tammy Abraham, who is on loan at Bristol City, has broken Dembele’s record for the most goals scored by a teenager in a Championship season, having hit his 16th of the season on Tuesday.

The Bristol City striker was one of the most highly-touted prospects coming out of Chelsea’s famed academy. Although the route from the academy to the Chelsea first-team has not been well-travelled recently, Abraham will hope his record while out on loan will help him.

And if Chelsea are genuinely considering an offer for Dembele, Abraham can remind his employers that they already have a player who’s done even better in the Championship.

In the meantime, Abraham can continue banging in the goals and displaying his full repertoire of tricks and skills.
