Manchester United fans have been less than impressed with their team’s performances on the pitch over the last three seasons and would be forgiven for looking away again when they see the new Independence Day: Resurgence trailer.

The trailer, uploaded to the 20th Century Fox UK YouTube channel on Tuesday, features captain Wayne Rooney leading Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Juan Mata and Daley Blind into battle against extraterrestrials, in fighter jets no less.

The part where they justify their inclusion by listing their past accolades is particularly embarrassing while Jeff Goldblum constantly mispronouncing Blind’s name is possibly the only mildly amusing anecdote.

Rooney’s recent appearance in a promo for X-Men: Apocalypse was widely ridiculed and this latest movie trailer isn’t doing the club any favours either.
