Louis van Gaal’s philosophy is not right for Manchester United says Mikael Silvestre

Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre wants the Red Devils to return to their famous attacking style of football but admits it will be difficult to implement under current boss Louis van Gaal.

The Dutchman has been heavily criticised this season for United’s lacklustre form in front of goal at home and struggles to break into the top four in the Premier League.

And Silvestre, who won five league titles in a nine-year spell at Old Trafford, believes Van Gaal’s philosophy is not suited to the club.

“It’s not the United way of playing. I’ve been watching the team this season and it takes too long for the team to get into an attacking position and to threaten the opposition, it’s not the way the club normally plays,” the 38-year-old, who made 361 appearances for United, told Sport360 exclusively during his guest of honour appearance at the National School League (NSL) finals.
