India skipper Virat Kohli described reports of a rift with vice-captain Rohit Sharma as “baffling” on Monday.

Kohli played down reports during a news conference in Mumbai on Monday. Reports emerged in Indian media about a fallout between the pair during the later stages of the 2019 World Cup.

“I’ve always praised Rohit whenever I’ve had an opportunity, because I believe he is that good,” said Kohli.

“We have had no issues, right. As I said, it’s (reports of a fall out) baffling to be honest. I don’t who is benefitting from all of this. We here are living, breathing, working towards getting Indian cricket to the top.

“And here people want to, get some kind of pleasure in bringing it down. I don’t understand how that works. I mean you work hard for four years to bring a team from seven to one (in the Test rankings). And after four years what are we talking about?”
