In the late nineties, the Indian team were infamous for falling behind other international cricket teams when it came to fielding.

Along with Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif has been credited with changing that notion in the early noughties with some outstanding efforts in the field.

One of Kaif’s best moments on the field came against arch-rivals Pakistan in the 2004 ODI series between the two teams. In the first ODI at Karachi, the hosts were on course to complete a world record chase with a target of 350 firmly in their sights.

Pakistan needed 10 runs to win from eight deliveries with four wickets in hand, when Shoaib Malik went for a big hit but only managed to loft the ball straight up in the air. In what was a deafening atmosphere at the National Stadium, Kaif from long-off and Hemang Badani from long-on both went for the catch.

Despite a collision between the two fielders, Kaif managed to cling onto the ball and completed a remarkable catch. This was a big moment in the game as India would go on to win the match by five runs.

What are your abiding memories of this catch and where were you when Kaif made it?
