Robin Uthappa’s international career may well have been very much in and out, but he has produced some memorable moments while donning the blue jersey.

One of those moments came during the 2008 Commonwealth Series as India and Australia squared off at Sydney. Coming into bat with India needing 169 runs to win in less than 20 overs with just five wickets in hand, Uthappa played one of his finest ODI knocks.

During his 46-ball 51, Uthappa played a shot that is still remembered by cricket fans to this day. Australian fast bowler Brett Lee had overstepped on the previous delivery and Uthappa would take full advantage of the resultant free-hit.

Uthappa took a couple of steps down the pitch and made some room for himself, but Lee was smart and bowled a short-delivery. The Indian batsman, though, would adjust beautifully – pulling the Aussie pacer straight down the ground for a huge six.

Despite Uthappa’s efforts, India would go on to lose the match by 18 runs. But they would have the last laugh after defeating Australia 2-0 in the finals of the tournament which also included Sri Lanka.
