England captain Eoin Morgan is hoping that the comprehensive coverage of the World Cup, the huge television audience for the final and the thriller it produced has attracted people to the sport.

The Wimbledon finals and the Britain Grand Prix were also held on the same day, thus distributing audience.

The super over thriller against New Zealand was just the icing on the cake on a wonderful Sunday for sports and Morgan hopes that cricket will now have a wider audience on television in the UK.

“I hope so. Particularly given the time it finished. Obviously today’s a big day of sport with Wimbledon and Silverstone going on,” Morgan said after the game.

“But I think, you know, Sunday evening people normally settle in for a little bit of David Attenborough or some random film that’s on. So… I hope they were tuned into the cricket.”
