India wicketkeeper batsman MS Dhoni came in for criticism after failing to show any intent to chase down England’s total of 337-7 at the 2019 World Cup on Sunday.

India needed 71 from the last five overs but Dhoni, and new batsman Kedar  Jadhav, mainly took singles and twos as the Englishmen ultimately prevailed by 31 runs.

However, India batting coach Sanjay Bangar said that Dhoni was ‘batting beautifully’. Dhoni scored 42 off 31 balls and remained unbeaten.

“I think MS (Dhoni) was striking the ball very well”, said Bangar.

“He was batting beautifully, he struck a few big blows. It’s just that last four or five overs difference between runs required and balls left kept on creeping up.”
