Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed admitted his side were “hurting” after India extended their winning run against their fierce rivals at the ICC Cricket World Cup with a 89-run victory at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Rain delays saw the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method enforced, with Rohit Sharma’s sparkling 140 from 113 balls helping India to their seventh win in seven World Cup matches against their arch sub-continent foes.

“Definitely it is very disappointing, it is hurting, you know,” said Sarfraz.

“We were going really well, especially if you talk about our batting. When we lost our first wicket, Imam and Fakhar, they made a good partnership.

“Our message was just stay on the wicket and just try and hit four, six to seven runs per over. But unfortunately, we lost too many wickets and that’s why we lost the match.”
