Xavi Hernandez confirmed on Thursday that he was approached by his former club Barcelona to take on the head coach role, but turned it down.

The former midfield said he appreciated the offer but had to decline on the basis that it was too soon in his career to tackle such a huge job.

“I didn’t accept because I didn’t feel that this was a good time for me,” Xavi said.

The Barca legend went on to express his admiration for Quique Setien who has been appointed instead.
