A majestic Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick helped Portugal salvage a 3-3 draw against Spain in what was a World Cup classic, played out on Friday.

The 33-year old scored a penalty to put his team ahead in only the fourth minute of the game. But Spain bounced back, thanks to a superb solo goal from Diego Costa in the 24th minute.

Manchester United star David de Gea‘s error cost Spain dearly just before half-time though as Ronaldo’s shot was not caught well and Portugal went 2-1 ahead.

Spain responded soon in the second-half, Costa kicking the ball into the net after Sergio Busquets’ headed assist.

Three minutes later Spain made it 3-2, after Nacho Fernandez’s rocket hit the post and then went in.

During the closing stages of the game, Gerard Pique‘s foul just outside the penalty area, awarded Portugal a freekick and there was only going to be one man taking it.

Ronaldo’s freekick was placed perfectly and a helpless de Gea could just watch it sail inside as Portugal leveled things at 3-3.

And while the game might have ended all square – it was certainly not short of entertainment and emotions.

Here, we take a look at some of the best pictures from the game!
