Kyle Walker is poised to become the most expensive defender ever when he joins Manchester City for £54 million.

The 27-year-old will undergo a medical at the Etihad Stadium on Friday before signing a five-year deal at £150,000-per-week.

Walker, 27, will bring with him the experience of more than 180 Premier League appearances for Spurs, whom he joined from Sheffield United in 2009, and is expected to join up with the rest of the City squad for next week’s tour to the United States.

City are also said to have been tracking Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy, another who could sign for the Sky Blues for close to £50m, after the initial offer of £40m was rejected.
