Defending champion Andy Murray continued his serene passage into the Madrid Masters semi-finals by sweeping past eighth seed Tomas Berdych 6-3, 6-2 on Friday.

Murray didn’t even face a break point for the second consecutive match as he adjusted to the indoor conditions caused by the unusually inclement weather in the Spanish capital to extend his winning record over Berdych to 8-6.

He will face Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals after the Spaniard saw off Portugal’s Joao Sousa (6-0, 4-6, 6-3).

Elsewhere in the men’s tournament, Kei Nishikori downed Nick Kyrgios in three sets (6-7 (6/8), 7-6 (7/1), 6-3) to reach the semi-finals, while Novak Djokovic completed the semi-final quartet with victory over Milos Raonic (6-3, 6-4).

Meanwhile, Dominika Cibulkova booked her place in the final of the women’s Madrid Open as she routed American qualifier Louisa Chirico 6-1, 6-1.

She will play Simona Halep in the final after the Romanian eased past Sam Stosur (6-2, 6-0).
