Usain Bolt achieved the ‘triple triple’ on his final Olympic appearance as Jamaica claimed the men’s 4x100m title on Friday night.

The Jamaican made it a clean sweep of 100m, 200m and sprint relay golds from three successive Games to bring his gold medal haul to nine.

In the women’s event, the US quartet shocked favourites Jamaica with success from Lane One in a race where Team GB claimed bronze.

Asha Philip, Desiree Henry, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita arrived at the Olympic Stadium as a strong medal shot, having last month become the country’s first quartet to go sub-42 seconds.

Lutalo Muhammad lost out on an Olympic gold medal in the final second of a dramatic men’s 80kg taekwondo final at Rio Olympic Park.

The 25-year-old Londoner led opponent Cheick Sallah Cisse before a stunning head kick with the very last move of the contest gave the Ivory Coast man an 8-6 victory.

Great Britain’s women are Olympic champions for the first time after Maddie Hinch and Hollie Webb’s penalty shootout heroics ended Holland’s dynasty in the Games.

Nicola White’s last-quarter strike levelled the match at 3-3 and the game went to penalties.
