Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack puts stranglehold on Mumbai Indians in routine win

Sunrisers Hyderabad avenged their defeat to Mumbai Indians from earlier this season with a routine seven-wicket victory over the IPL table-toppers.

Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma [67 off 45 balls] won the toss and opted to bat first, but his star-studded batting lineup were flummoxed by the Sunrisers’ bowling, especially Afghan spin twins Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan, while Sunrisers pacer Sidharth Kaul picked up three wickets with some stingy bowling.

Sharma himself scored a fifty, but got little support from the rest of the Indians batsmen.

In reply, although David Warner fell early, Shikhar Dhawan and Moises Henriques steadied the ship in a 97-run partnership.

Dhawan took toll on some poor Mumbai bowling, as other than Mitchell McClenaghan and Harbhajan Singh, none of the bowlers could find the right line and length to trouble the batsmen.

Although there was a brief wobble with both Henriques and Yuvraj Singh falling in succession, Dhawan was on hand to ensure there was no late drama.

Sunrisers remain fourth in the table, but with qualification for the playoffs looking much more secure.

Mumbai Indians 138-7, 20 overs [Sharma 67, Patel 23, Kaul 3-24] lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad 140-3, 18.2 overs [Dhawan 62, Henriques 44, McClenaghan 1-26] by seven wickets.

Player of the Match – Shikhar Dhawan.
