Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Gautam Gambhir’s unbeaten 72 saw the hosts cruise to victory over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

KKR won by eight wickets in the Indian Premier League clash on Thursday as Gambhir registered his 33rd fifty in the competition during a dominating chase.

In the first innings, Umesh Yadav’s 4/33 held Kings XI Punjab to 170/9 in 20 overs. Manan Vohra was their top scorer with 29 runs in an innings that saw plenty get off to good starts but no one was able to capitalise.

Hashim Amla (25), Glenn Maxwell (25), David Miller (28) and Wriddhiman Saha (25) all threatened to score big but failed to deliver.

As Gambhir successfully led the KKR chase, he was ably supported by Sunil Narine (37 off 18), Robin Uthappa (26) and Manish Pandey (25 not out).
