From Rory McIlroy to Vijay Singh and Adam Scott – The golfers not going to the Rio Olympics

World number four Rory McIlroy announced that he would not be taking part in the 2016 Rio Olympics due to fears over the Zika Virus, joining the likes of Charl Schwartzel, Vijay Singh and March Leishman who all have also pulled out for the same reason.

Meanwhile, two other prolific golfers Louis Oosthuizen and Adam Scott are also not travelling to Rio this summer, with the former unable to participate due to family reasons and the latter choosing not to attend and rather focus on the PGA Tour.

McIlroy is the highest profile withdrawal to date and it is yet to be seen whether his decision will see more athletes decide against travelling to Brazil.

Was it the right decision from these golfers or are they disrespecting the rich history of the Olympics by not participating?
