India defeated England by an innings and 75 runs to complete a 4-0 series win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Monday.

At lunch, with England’s score reading 97/0, most people expected the match to end in a tame draw. But a few minutes after lunch, Ravindra Jadeja triggered a mini-collapse by taking the wickets of Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings and Joe Root.

Jennings managed to bring up his second 50+ score in Test cricket while Cook was dismissed one short of a half-century.

Even at tea, with England four wickets down, it looked like the match was heading towards a draw. Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes had added 63 runs before an ambitious shot from the former opened up the game once again.

This time around, India would capitalise as they took the next four English wickets for just eight runs. England were eventually bowled out for 207.

Jadeja was undoubtedly the star for India on the final day, picking up seven wickets and three catches on a pitch that did not have much support for him.

Karun Nair was named the Man of the Match for his knock of 303* while Indian captain Virat Kohli bagged the Man of the Series award having scored 655 runs in the series.

BRIEF SCORES

England 477 (Ali 146, Root 88, Jadeja 1/106) and 207 (Jennings 54, Cook 49, Jadeja 7/48) lose to India 759/7d (Nair 303*, Rahul 199, Broad 2/80) by an innings and 75 runs.
