Debutant Keaton Jennings scored a century as England ended day one of the fourth Test against India on 288/5 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Alastair Cook won the toss and unsurprisingly, chose to bat first on a pitch where the first two days are expected to be the best for batting.

Cook and Jennings put on 99 runs for the first wicket, with Cook reaching 2000 runs against India in Test cricket, before the England skipper was stumped off the bowling of left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja.

Jennings, on the other hand, showed no signs of his inexperience at international level. He played shots all around the ground before bringing up a memorable Test hundred on debut.

At 230/2, with Jennings and Moeen Ali at the crease, England looked to be in complete command of the game. But that was when Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed both batsmen in the same over to wrestle the advantage away from the visitors.

Ashwin was the pick of the Indian bowlers, picking up four out of the five English wickets to fall on Thursday.

With the pitch assisting turn and bounce, England will be reasonably pleased with their efforts, while India will be hoping to not concede a huge first innings total to England.

BRIEF SCORES

England 288/5 [Jennings 112, Ali 50, Cook 46, Ashwin 4/75, Jadeja 1/60] vs India.
