The South African captain, who has 887 points to his name, holds a healthy lead over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team-mate Virat Kohli, who is second with 813 points. Hashim Amla finds himself in third spot.

Joe Root is the biggest riser in the top ten, having jumped to fourth. This is the first time that Root has found himself in the top five of the ICC ODI Rankings for Batsmen. The 25-year-old scored 274 runs at an average of 54.8 in the recently concluded ODI series against Pakistan.

Another big leap from the England-Pakistan ODI series was the visitors’ wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed, who rose 21 places to 39th spot. Sarfraz was top scorer on either side in the series, finishing with 300 runs to his name.

Despite being the top-ranked ODI team in the world, surprisingly no Australian batsman is in the top ten. David Warner is the top-ranked Aussie at 13th place, while Aaron Finch (16th), George Bailey (17th) and Steve Smith (18th) are the other Australians in the top 20.

Tillekeratne Dilshan has retired as the highest-ranked Sri Lankan in 10th place.

India’s Rohit Sharma has dropped one place to seventh, with the New Zealand duo of Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill just above him.
