The Yin-Yang Masterclass by Urban Yoga is a must for Dubai’s yogis.

The New York-style yoga studio, situated at 3701 Aspect Tower, Executive Towers in Business Bay, is friendly and has a chilled atmosphere.

The 90-minute long masterclass stretches flexibility to new limits, admittedly causing some short-term pain, for what will hopefully be long-term gain.

Instructors, Edita and Amanda are fine exponents of their craft, starting the class with a host of popular Yin-Yoga practices that mix seated, supine, prone and more postures for long periods of time.

While it can be difficult to hold some of these positions, both instructors are regularly on hand to tweak technique, re-adjust and generally get yogis through the practice – focusing where possible on getting the right breathing methods right.

And if they’re not close by, the yoga blocks and blankets can be useful for holding yogis in position!

The second-half of the afternoon class involves more traditional active yoga exercises – with flexibility naturally improving.

Post-class, both instructors are on hand to answer any questions and it very useful to discuss elements of the practices with them.

For regular runners and endurance sport competitors, yoga can really transform training, recovery and develop vital core strength – offering a vital advantage with the running season upon us.
