From Holland’s trophy-winning orange look in 1988 to Italy’s white and blue Kappa kit in 2000, here are some of the best:

1. Netherlands 1988 – The Dutch kit of ’88 is a masterpiece and the stars, like Marco van Basten, who wore it were artists.

2. Germany 1988 – The hosts were knocked out in the semi-finals but they looked good doing it in their edgy adidas strip.

3. Denmark 1988 – It’s a genuine shame we didn’t see this stunning Hummel kit last longer than the group stages.

4. France 1984 – A strip fit for kings. France blitzed Euro ‘84, then when it was recreated, won their first World Cup.

5. Portugal 2004 – The circle around the squad numbers of Portugal’s Nike kit made this stunning effort stand out.

6. Italy 2000 – Oh how we wish Kappa made more kits these days. The lighter blue is a touch of class.

7. Sweden 1992 – They might have seen their neighbours lift the trophy, but Sweden looked the part regardless.

8. Portugal 2012 – Portugal were knocked out on pens wearing their away kit featuring a cross on the home kit’s badge.

9. Italy 2004 – Simple but the gold trim really gives this a special feel. It’s a shame that Italy failed to impress.

10. England 1996 – Far from the nicest looking but definitely the most iconic on the list as England fell in the semis.
