From Virat Kohli to Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle: Who has scored the most centuries in T20 cricket?

West Indies’ Chris Gayle, unsurprisingly, has the most centuries in T20 cricket – over international and domestic cricket.

The West Indian opener is considered a pioneer of the shortest format of the game, having played 272 matches for 18 different teams.

With 18 centuries to his name, Gayle is far ahead of anyone else. In second place with seven centuries is former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum.

Australia’s Michael Klinger, who is joint third on the list with England’s Luke Wright, has never played international cricket despite his promising T20 stats.

In 123 T20 matches, the 36-year-old has notched up 3891 runs with six centuries at an average of 38.91 and a strike rate of 127.03.

Following them is explosive Australian opening batsman David Warner, who has five centuries in the format. Warner also led Sunrisers Hyderabad to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title earlier this year.

Zimbabwe’s Hamilton Masakadza, England’s Jason Roy and India’s Virat Kohli have scored four centuries each in T20 cricket.

Interestingly, Kohli – despite a stellar T20 record – had never scored a century in T20 cricket before the start of this year’s IPL.

He registered his first T20 century against Gujarat Lions in April and three more followed over the next few weeks.

Here are the batsmen with the most centuries in T20 cricket:

Batsman Matches Runs Centuries
Chris Gayle (WI) 272 9668 18
Brendon McCullum (NZ) 251 6955 7
Michael Klinger (AUS) 123 3891 6
