Backstage insiders reveal who took the blame for disappointing women’s championship finish at Hell in a Cell

According to The Wrestling Observer, a source within WWE creative says Vince McMahon did not believe Charlotte winning the Women’s WWE Hell in a Cell match is not the reason why the finish of the match did not go over well with the fans.

Instead, McMahon blames Sasha Banks for the lackluster match finish.

The finish of the match was supposed to see Banks go through the table, and then get pinned by Charlotte after taking Natural Selection. Charlotte tried twice to put Banks through the table, but it would not break, which really isn’t the fault of either wrestler.

Some people backstage in WWE were sympathetic to Banks’ situation, as she would have risked tremendous backstage heat if she had called an audible and kicked out after the table didn’t break, plus then her and Charlotte would have had to come up with a new match finish.

Some feel the referee should have stepped in and directed the women, or at the very least should have told Charlotte to grab Banks’ tights for the heel win. Some also feel Charlotte could have been more celebratory when she won the title back from Banks.

In any case, Vince McMahon was said to be completely behind changing the match finish and having Charlotte win, and it’s a decision he does not regret.
