Spain coach Julen Lopetegui paid tribute to veteran attacking midfielder Andres Iniesta after his vintage display against Switzerland.

Iniesta, 34, got an ovation from the crowd at Villarreal’s Ceramica Stadium during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland as he played his final international match on home soil.

The ex-Barcelona superstar – who joined Japan’s Vissel Kobe last month and has announced his retirement from La Roja duty after World Cup 2018 – famously scored the winning goal during World Cup 2010’s final.

“The tribute from the fans is something that he deserves for all of his career,” said Lopetegui.
