According to reports, Polish architect Krzysztof Kotala is currently pitching designs to companies for an underwater tennis stadium in Dubai.

– Barcelona Open: Nishikori seals second consecutive title
– Stuttgart: Kerber sees off Wozniacki to win final in three sets
– GALLERY: Top ten fastest serves in ATP history
– #360win: Front row seats for Mayweather vs Pacquiao at Asiana

The ambitious plan currently has no investors but Kotala is undeterred in his attempts to make tennis beneath the ocean a reality in the UAE.

“There is not an investor but I would like to get interest as I think it is a good idea,” Kotala was quoted as telling Arabian Business.

“This will be something original. This should be somewhere where there is the tradition of tennis. Dubai is perfect for this idea.”

Arabian Business’ news report also says that Kotala believes the idea has vast commercial potential and would “combine the best of “technology, ecology and sport.””

A number of companies have tried to bring underwater projects to the region, with the Floating Seahorses Villas the closest to reality although none have yet come to fruition.

If Kotala’s plans were to gain investment and ultimately lead to construction it could see the world’s best players – who have flocked to the city for the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship since 1993 – play among the UAE’s marine life if the tournament were to move from its Irish Village home.

The idea is more than a little fanciful but if they were to come to life in any part of the world, Dubai would be an obvious contender due to its penchant for the most unorthodox and creative of constructions.
