WTA Tour chief executive Stacey Allaster will step down from her role next month, the organisation has announced.

Allaster joined the WTA in 2006 as its president and was promoted to her current role three years later.

Under her leadership, the WTA won its fight for equal prize money and saw a significant increase in global contract revenues.

Allaster, who will leave her role on October 2, said: “It’s been a privilege to lead the organisation that Billie Jean King founded and to have worked with the world’s best female athletes, dedicated tournament promoters and passionate and professional WTA team members.

“For 25 years I have dedicated my professional life to the sport and I’m proud of the work I leave behind.”

The WTA says the process of securing a replacement for Allaster as chief executive is “under way”.
