Reem’s Wimbledon diary: Lewis Hamilton falls foul of SW19 dress-code

The men’s final always attracts a dazzling array of stars and Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton was due to be among them today.

However, it appears a man who is no stranger to making a quick getaway was forced into an unwanted one here on account of his poor dress sense.

Hamilton is known for his bizzare outfits and this time he paid the price as he was barred from the Royal Box for not adhering to a strict dress code which requires male guests to wear a jacket, tie and shoes.

A spokesman for Hamilton later confirmed: “Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding regarding dress code at Wimbledon, Lewis is very disappointed to have missed the men’s final.”

Meanwhile, when John Isner was asked to talk about Serena Williams at Wimbledon and how she’s rewriting history, the American commended her competitive spirit.

“I like how she competes  more than anything. She does everything so well as far as Xs and Os and hitting the ball. I mean, she’s a competitor. You guys have seen it. She goes nuts out there,” said the American No 1. “She hates to lose.”

Williams was asked what her inner voice told her during tough times on court and it looks like she would agree with Isner’s description as she revealed “it’s crazy up there” pointing to her head.

“Usually I’m singing a song in my head. Then if I stop singing it, I usually start losing, then I go back to singing. It’s crazy up there. You don’t want to be up there.”

We later asked her to elaborate what kind of songs she’s singing in her head. Turns out, it’s Flashdance.

“I usually sing ‘What a Feeling’ by Irene Cara,” she added. Maybe we should try that.

Meanwhile, another world No 1 who was crowned Wimbledon champion these past two days, Novak Djokovic, had some advice for his fellow players: Get married and have kids!

Djokovic’s one-year wedding anniversary was yesterday, the same day he beat Roger Federer to win a third Wimbledon crown, and he reflected on how marriage and becoming a father has changed his life.

“Ever since I got married and became a father, I haven’t lost many matches, I won many tournaments. I suggest that to every player ‘get married, have kids, let’s enjoy this’,” Djokovic said with a laugh.

“One year ago I won the trophy, and on this day, we got married in the church, started a new life together. It’s really an amazing chapter of my life that I’m trying to enjoy as much as I can.”
