Omar Behroozian hailed the efforts of team-mate Mahmoud Nader Al Balooshi in pulling off a sensational comeback that guided the UAE to another 3-0 sweep, this time over Bangladesh, in Davis Cup Group IV action yesterday in Bahrain.

Al Balooshi rallied back from 3-5 down in the final set to beat Sree-Amol Roy 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (5) and give the UAE the opening point in their tie with Bangladesh on day two of the competition.

Behroozian, 33, who is recovering from a torn oblique muscle, then made it 2-0 for the Emirati squad with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Shibu Lal before he teamed up with Davis Cup debutant Abdulla Ahli to beat Lal and Ranjan Lam 6-2, 6-3 in the doubles encounter.

“Mahmoud had a titanic battle. He was down in the final set and came back to win… a lot of heart,” Behroozian told Sport360°.

“My match went smoother and my injury is slowly getting better. The Doubles went well too and it’s really good that Abdulla now has two wins in a row (along with his doubles victory on day one). It’s good experience for him.”

The Emiratis will resume their campaign today against Oman, who lost 3-0 to Singapore yesterday.

The UAE and Singapore have two wins in Pool B while Pacific Oceania and Jordan are at the top of Pool A.

“If we win, we are guaranteed to reach the playoff,” said Behroozian.

“The teams in the other pool are kind of even so I don’t think we have any preference as to who we could face to fight for promotion to Group III.”
