Rafael Nadal will return to action for the first time since his shock Wimbledon loss to Nick Kyrgios at the China Open, which starts on Monday.

Nadal was forced to take an extended leave of absence due to a right wrist injury but is eager to return with the ATP World Tour Finals in London fast approaching.

The Spaniard has already secured qualification for the O2 Arena showpiece but is clearly short of top-level match practice.

Nadal said: “I am much better. The evolution of the injury took a little bit of time, but that’s it. The last part of the season remains. I am going to try to be ready for it.

"I don’t know what condition I am going to be in… but I hope to practise and play as much as possible to be in rhythm again.”
