Reem’s Wimbledon diary: A final for all the family

You know what’s great to see at Wimbledon?

A Royal Box on their feet.

Thanks to the heroics of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the final yesterday, we got to see Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge – Kate – jump out of their seats to cheer for the Swiss legend.

It wasn't just the royals enjoying the tennis, with a star-studded crowd including the likes of Samuel L Jackson, Bradley Cooper and David Beckham all rising in amazement at the quality of play.

The Royal Box was so packed that Sir Alex Ferguson, Kate Winslet, Orlando Bloom and Kate Beckinsale, who were all equally animated throughout the clash, had to be accommodated in the regular seats.

Centre Court was the place to be and the final ended with Djokovic eating the grass, the way he did after his first Wimbledon triumph.

Djokovic was greeted by William and Kate after the match and the Serb thanked them for staying for the whole match.

“How could we leave?” responded Kate. “Many congratulations, fantastic tennis from start to finish.”

Djokovic asked them if they were still playing tennis and Kate said: “I’m slightly out of practice.”

On court, Djokovic dedicated the title first to his fiancee Jelena Ristic and their “future baby”.

Ristic is pregnant and due in October and wasn’t in the stands for what was always going to be a tense final.

She watched the match at their rented home in Wimbledon, which in retrospect proved to be a wise choice considering the intensity of the encounter.

Time for some treats

Ever wondered how players treat themselves when they’re done with a tournament?

We asked a couple of players what comfort food they were craving and would allow themselves to indulge over after Wimbledon.

Milos Raonic said chicken wings while Eugenie Bouchard said dessert.

“A brownie or something,” she said.
