The British number one and world number three, who lost Sunday’s Madrid Open final to Novak Djokovic, said the decision was mutual between himself and the Frenchwoman, who has worked with him since the summer of 2014.

Murray said in a statement: “I’ve learned a lot from Amelie over the last two years, both on and off the court. She’s been a calming influence in the team and we will all miss having her around.

“I’ll take some time to consider the next steps and how we progress from here, but I’d like to thank her for everything she has done, she’s been an invaluable member of the team.”

Mauresmo, the former women’s world number one, said: “Working with Andy over the last two years has been a fantastic experience for me.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of the great team of people he has around him. Dedicating enough time along with the travel has been a challenge for me. I wish him and (his) team well and I hope he goes on to win many more titles.”

The split comes less than two months after Murray, 28, dismissed talk of a rift between himself and Mauresmo as he adjusted to parenthood.

Mauresmo, 36, was herself absent on maternity leave for much of last year, with Jonas Bjorkman covering for her. Bjorkman left Murray’s team at the end of 2015 when Mauresmo returned.
