The Sharks UAE Rugby Academy and UAE Rugby Federation (UAERF) has announced that the three venues in the UAE – at Al Ain, Abu Dhabi and Dubai – will no longer continue in its current format.

Discussions are currently underway to determine the viability of other options and to determine the way forward within the UAE.

The Academy, which was announced in late 2012, was set-up to develop the game of rugby in the UAE and to introduce budding players from the country to top-class training and the opportunity to gain valuable insight and coaching from one of the leading rugby academies in the world.

Speaking about their time in the UAE, Sharks Academy MD Etienne Fynn stated: “Both The Sharks and The Sharks Academy are grateful to UAE Rugby for being given the opportunity to develop the game of rugby in the country. The level of professionalism displayed and the assistance rendered during our time in the UAE has made our stay there a memorable one.”

Qais Al Dhalai, Secretary General UAE Rugby Federation, added: “The UAE Rugby Federation would like to express their sincere thanks to Etienne and to The Sharks Academy, for their support and professionalism through this joint venture.

"We would especially like to recognise the commitment and efforts of Steve Botha, who led the Academy for the past 2 years and wish them the very best with their future endeavours.”

“We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the people of the UAE and to thank them for their support of The Sharks.  Your positive contribution to our brand is valued and appreciated,” added Fynn.
